AND please response to this post below!3 hours ago, at 3:37 PMA person with Chronic Illness and disability may experience loss of physical capacity, body image, and ability for sexual or intimate relationships, and a loss of mental capacity to make decisions independently. A person who becomes paralyzed due to a motor vehicle accident may experience loss of physical prowess that they experienced before the accident and it could affect their body image and sexual or intimate relationships. A person who experiences a traumatic brain injury from falling and hitting their head or another type of accident may lose mental capacity and not be able to make decisions and take care of themselves independently as they did prior to sustaining the injury. It is important in counseling to choose goals with clients and family members that relate to stability, progressive nature, episodic nature, degenerative nature, and periods of exacerbation and remission of the persons Chronic Illness and Disability or CID. Empowering the individual by helping them to understand that they are people first and that their dis-ability doesnt define them, and helping to bring meaning to their loss will help them find hope in different abilities. Family/support goal setting or a goal of finding a support system can help the person with feelings of isolation and loneliness.
