The National Incident Management System (NIMS) is essential to prepare and deter any Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, or high-yield Explosives (CBRNE) events, becoming an intrinsical part of the Department of Homeland Security (Pichtel, 2016). Interestingly, NIMSs focus is to establish uniform processes, protocols, and procedures to work in conjunction with other three organizational components; the Incident Command System (ICS), the Multiagency Coordination Systems, and the Public Information (Pichtel, 2016). The importance of NIMS as part of the Department of Homeland Security is its main components: command and management, preparedness, resource management, communications and information management, ongoing management and maintenance, and supporting technologies (Pichtel, 2016). It is essential to point out that NIMSs components are ready to adapt and make immediate changes, if necessary, under any emergency such as terrorist attacks or natural disasters (Pichtel, 2016).
Another critical management strategy working in conjunction with NIMS is the Incident Command System (ICS), specifically designed to address issues related to hazardous incidents (Pichtel, 2016). Interestingly, the CBRNE Science Medical Operations Support Expert (CMOSSE) has become part of hospitals ICS (Coleman et al., 2019). Hospitals leadership prioritize the preparedness of hospital staff to identify and report any radiation environment that is unprotected; therefore, lethal to all hospital personnel and patients (Coleman et al., 2019). However, the ICS also concentrates on other emergencies such as terrorist attacks and natural disasters besides incidents related to hazardous material (Pichtel, 2016). Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is essential when dealing directly with emergency services, especially when any CBRNE agents are involved in the emergency incident (Trzos et al., 2019). In addition to shielding emergency management personnel against any CBRNE agent, PPEs have become part of other protective methods such as ventilation with other personnel working in conjunction with emergency personnel (Pichtel, 2016).
As we end this great course, it is essential to explain that Contemporary Issues in Cyber Security and WMD (CBRNE) Threat Analysis had an excellent method to help the researcher increase profound knowledge of many aspects of terrorist attacks and natural disasters. As the researcher completed all the assignments, especially during the group discussions, he appreciates reinforcing a much deeper knowledge of CBRNE. The researcher will use the acquired knowledge to continue to analyze data related to his final dissertation. The researcher appreciates the professionalism of all the students and Dr. Perry for guiding us in the right direction. The Sacred Scriptures read, May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels. For the sake of my family and friends, I will say Peace be within you (The NIV Study Bible, New International Version, 1984; Psalm 122: 7 8). The citadels must continue to be strong as individuals such as the students of this class continue to be ready to serve and help change policies guided by our Lord and foremost protector.
